Holy shit. I read the page book in a little over 2. This book treads all the fine lines ever. Justice, family, life cannot be put into little boxes and Jackson really explores what is right and wrong in this book. Is justice so easily served? Why is it that we as a society are always trying to figure out the one truth, are always trying to figure out the right and wrong while never focusing on the gray regions. What makes someone innocent? Who do we Allegeedly Whose narrative is actually worth believing? And yet we the readers have to really figure out the puzzle that is Mary B. I learned and unlearned a lot as I was reading a book and it was quite the emotional journey.

To say that this book shocked me is an understatement. When I finished reading the book, I had to reread that ending a few times to make sure I fully comprehended what just happened. It took me a while to fully grasp the ramifications and be able to come to terms with it. The story got into my head, and really bothered me in ways I cannot describe. In short, the story is about Mary B. Throughout all the trials, Mary never said a word to defend herself, she took the punishment, neither denying nor confirming the accusations, while her mother was let go.
